Families and businesses need trusted legal help during some of the most challenging and exciting times. Whether it’s a personal injury matter, a real estate issue, or a business challenge, Brian and Barry have been providing trusted legal advice for decades, and have been honored to be the first call for many friends, neighbors and businesses throughout Chicago. They’ve both learned the importance of trust and service from early on by the examples set by their fathers.
John C. Owen opened his first law practice in the 1930s in Washington, Iowa. His practice served the local businesses and farmers in Washington County, and most of his clients were his friends and neighbors. When times were tight for his clients, he would often receive payment in barter: fresh vegetables from farmers, or furniture from local craftsmen.
It is with this history in mind that Brian and Barry established Owen & Owen in 2020. After practicing law for a combined 50 years in Chicago, Brian as a solo practitioner and Barry with small firms, they both felt that the practice that their father and grandfather built was something their neighborhood and city needs.
Our practice focuses on serving small businesses and individuals when they need legal advice and counsel, representation in litigation or before governmental agencies. But perhaps most importantly, we are committed to spending as much as half of our time representing our neighbors in need, pro bono. We will bring the same commitment and professionalism to every case, whether for a pro bono client or a successful business.
The first step is for us to meet with you and come up with a plan to get the results you need. Through our understanding of the law and your understanding of the circumstances, we will craft a path to success.
Litigation can be a stressful and frustrating process for many clients. Brian and Barry have handled litigation for individuals and businesses in state and federal courts and before state and municipal agencies in Chicago, Illinois and across the country. Our focus in litigation is on results and efficiency.
We represent local businesses and individuals in connection with the sale or lease of commercial and residential property, and property owners before municipal agencies and in litigation. Our experience and size allow us to develop cost-effective strategies for matters both simple and complex.
We know that running a business presents new challenges everyday. Let us help you focus on managing and growing your business by taking care of your organizational, employment and litigation matters.
People often need the assistance of an attorney at some of the most challenging times of life. We can help individuals and families prepare for the future.
We have represented municipalities in state and federal courts in Illinois, in significant police misconduct cases, contract disputes, and equal protection claims. Barry has recently acted as independent counsel to Illinois municipalities on ethics complaints. Brian and Barry have also acted as hearing officers for municipalities in the Chicago area.
We have significant experience with federal civil rights litigation, specifically in the areas of police misconduct and in the correctional context and take pride in ensuring that these rights are fairly applied to all.
Brian and Barry have extensive experience representing employees and businesses before state unemployment agencies in Illinois and Indiana, from the initial hearing stage to appeals. These processes can be confusing and we can help you get to a resolution as quickly and efficiently as possible.
